A male cicada is the loudest insect in the world. It has two drum-like organs on its abdomen, which it vibrates noisily to attract a mate.
Australia has more than 200 species of cicada. Each one has a slightly different song to all the others.
Female cicadas lay their eggs in plants. When they hatch, the tiny cicada nymphs jump to the ground and dig down to find a new home.
When lots of cicadas sing together on a hot summer night, the noise they make is ear-splitting!
