Chelonia mydas meaning “marine tortoise”
The Green Turtle is a reptile whose ancestors predate the dinosaurs. It has an olive-green shell, properly known as a ‘carapace’. Males spend their entire lives at sea, but females return to shore to lay eggs several times each season.
